Comment on Google blocked 2M malicious apps from the Play Store in 2023 by Daniel Max https://www.developer-tech.com/news/google-blocked-2m-malicious-apps-play-store-in-2023/#comment-27667 Sat, 11 May 2024 20:16:33 +0000 http://www.developer-tech.com//?p=45954#comment-27667 Google’s commitment to ensuring a safe and trusted Play Store experience is commendable. The strides made in 2023, including blocking millions of policy-violating apps and banning bad actor accounts, demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining security and integrity.

The introduction of new developer verification requirements and partnerships with SDK providers reflect Google’s dedication to increasing transparency and enhancing app quality and security. Collaboration with industry leaders in the restructured App Defense Alliance further strengthens the ecosystem’s defenses against emerging threats.

I’m particularly impressed by Google’s focus on protecting users installing apps outside the Play Store, with enhancements to Play Protect’s scanning capabilities. This proactive approach to detecting and preventing malicious code is crucial in safeguarding users’ devices and data.

Moreover, the policy updates regarding privacy practices and account deletion options demonstrate a commitment to user privacy and empowerment.

Looking ahead to 2024, Google’s plans to remove Play Store apps lacking transparency about privacy practices and taking legal action against crypto scammers reaffirm its dedication to user protection and trust.

As a platform striving for continuous improvement, Google’s efforts to evolve and adapt to emerging threats are vital in maintaining a safe and secure Play Store environment for users and developers alike.

I applaud Google’s ongoing efforts to prioritize user and developer safety, and I look forward to seeing further advancements in app security and privacy in the year ahead.

Comment on Computer science pioneer Niklaus Wirth dies aged 89 by John Tackkett https://www.developer-tech.com/news/computer-science-pioneer-niklaus-wirth-dies-aged-89/#comment-20078 Fri, 05 Jan 2024 17:23:37 +0000 http://www.developer-tech.com//?p=45483#comment-20078 When I was in college they had just switched off of using PL/1 to Pascal as their teaching language. When I got my first job programming we used UCSD Pascal as our development language. It was outstanding. That that was in the days of Babbage’s and Software etc and our products were sold nationally in those stores. I went back to school and continued my education. I used Turbo Pascal in all my classes for my projects. We had a project in a software engineering class and my team was the only team to get their project done because we had used Turbo Pascal. Fond memories of coding in an excellent language. My respects to him and condolences on his passing.

Comment on Developer shortage remains the top challenge two years in a row by Michael J https://www.developer-tech.com/news/developer-shortage-remains-the-top-challenge-two-years-in-a-row/#comment-17361 Thu, 20 Apr 2023 17:31:13 +0000 http://www.developer-tech.com//?p=44335#comment-17361 If you want to hire top-quality developers, then please pay top dollar for that developer. You can’t afford it? Then quit claiming there is a shortage. Is there a shortage of Bentley or a Ferrari cars? No, because most people can’t afford it. The average Google developer salary is at $13,000 PER MONTH. Can your company pay anything close to that? No? Then please answer me why you deserve the top quality engineer or skilled developer? With what money are you going to buy their services?

What you need to do is to start hire Junior developers right out of school and train them at your company and keep increasing their salary so they don’t leave for a better one they want to work for. You know, something called INVEST in your business. But you’re never gonna do that. That’s too expensive and uncertain for you, because all of you “employers” are just a bunch of scam artists that will never tell the truth about how you manage your economics of your company and what you actually can and cannot afford. Thousands of people have wasted years on IT education and can’t find a job right now because you’re saying they don’t have the experience(where are they supposed to get it?), but tricking them into taking an education with your “shortage of developers” myth, that’s something you will never admit any wrong doing in. Companies lying like this should be a criminal charge. Quit ruin peoples lives.
